Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Futorological Impact Evaluation Tool

Welcome to the home page!

1) Manipulation of the site and what to expect? :

From this tool, one can expect to see the following results

1) What penetration of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) can be safely handled with the existing infrastructure in future in all the zones serviced by NG-USA.

2) Determining high impact zones for user selected inputs

3) Dispatch vehicles for charging by utilising the available valley

  • This area is for data management and allows authorized users to ADD, DELETE Vehicle charging schemes, modify Electric Base load and Vehicle population tables.

2) Reasons for developing this tool:

Presently, battery costs and lifetime are the two major roadblocks preventing plug-in hybrids from being commercialized. Automobile giants have invested millions into research and development of the battery technology for these vehicles.

Though, there have been many studies and reports published recently related to PHEVs, no solid tool has been developed to assess their impact on the grid at the zonal level. From the utility standpoint, it is important that they know if the present infrastructure can withstand proliferation of the PHEVs. Hence, this tool is an attempt to identify critical zones in the National Grid-USA service territories based on current battery trends and technology.
